Print Lamination Types
Lamination is a common production technique used for Printed Notepads to add a protective layer of plastic or other materials on top of the finished product.
The benefits of lamination are extensive; it can provide extra durability and tensile strength to the Printed Notepads, make them waterproof, or offer an aesthetically pleasing finish that can’t be achieved without lamination.
This process is achieved by adding another layer on top of the Printed Notepads and bonding it with the material under heat, pressure, or both. The types of lamination can vary, from matte, gloss, or satin to soft-touch, anti-scuff, or anti-graffiti, depending on the specific needs of the Printed Notepads.
So you’re deciding on the finish of your chosen material and when it comes to lamination there’s plenty to choose from! Lets take a look at the different types of lamination in more detail, so you can make the best choice for your custom printed product.

Gloss Lamination
Gloss lamination is a great option for Printed Notepads as it offers a high-quality, glossy finish that enhances the look and feel of the notepad. The shiny effect of the gloss lamination provides an illusion of crisper lines and brighter colours, which makes the notepad look more professional and eye-catching. Additionally, gloss lamination is cost-effective, as it’s one of the easiest to produce.
However, there are a few drawbacks to consider. Because the gloss lamination catches the light, any wear and tear marks will be more obvious than with a matt finish, which can make the notepad look worn out quickly. While it’s possible to write on gloss and wipe off the text when you’re done, this is only a short-term solution, as it will eventually mark the lamination.
Silk Lamination
Additionally, silk lamination offers the same level of protection as gloss lamination, but without the shine and glare. It reduces fingerprints and smudges and is more resistant to wear and tear than an uncoated product. Silk lamination is often used for products that need to convey a high-end look and feel, such as business cards, invitations, and book covers. It’s also a great option for products that require frequent handling or are exposed to the elements.
Large Format Lamination
We also offer a couple of large format only laminations that are more for practical use than for any aesthetic or tactile styling.
Matt Lamination
Matt lamination offers better resistance against scratches, fingerprints, and other types of wear and tear, making it a durable option for products that will be handled frequently. It also provides a protective layer against moisture, making it a great choice for products that may be exposed to water or other liquids. However, it’s important to note that unlike gloss lamination, it is not possible to write on a matt laminated surface as the ink will not adhere properly.
Soft Touch Lamination
Soft-touch lamination, also known as velvet lamination, is a high-end laminate that provides a luxurious, tactile feel to the finished product. It has a matte appearance but has a velvety texture that is pleasing to the touch. Soft-touch lamination is ideal for products that require a sophisticated, high-end look and feel such as luxury packaging, business cards, and high-end brochures.
The downside to soft-touch lamination is that it is the most expensive option and may not be suitable for all budgets. Additionally, the soft texture can make it more prone to fingerprints and smudges, so it may require more frequent cleaning.
Anti-Graffiti Lamination
Anti-graffiti laminate is a special type of laminate designed to protect surfaces from graffiti and vandalism. It works by creating a protective barrier that makes it easier to remove spray paint, marker pens, and other types of graffiti without damaging the underlying surface. This makes it ideal for use in public areas such as schools, hospitals, and other public spaces where vandalism is a concern. It can also be used on signs, banners, and other types of outdoor advertising to keep them looking clean and professional.
